A once waterlogged, shaded courtyard has been transformed into a lush, low-maintenance space with effective drainage and resilient planting, creating a beautiful year-round view from the kitchen.

A stunning outlook from the kitchen window — every single morning, rain, hail or shine.
This courtyard presented a unique challenge. Largely shaded by the surrounding walls and cut off from the northern aspect, it also received significant water runoff from neighbouring uphill properties. For a long time, those two factors defined the space.
When our clients asked what could be done, the brief was clear: manage the excess water effectively and create a beautiful, welcoming view from the kitchen — using predominantly shade-tolerant plantings, with resilience for the occasional burst of intense summer sun.
Through thoughtful drainage solutions and carefully selected plant varieties, this once-problematic corner has been transformed into a lush, layered courtyard that feels calm, balanced and purposeful. The result is a practical space that performs as well as it looks — and a view that can be enjoyed every day of the year.
We’re especially proud of this transformation — and most importantly, so are our clients. 🌿
